The orderly officer is always one of the principal warders. The arrangements are fairer and more practicable.

Rules 70-78. These, with some verbal alterations, are the same as the old rules as relating to the Matron.

Rules 79-106. Among these rules, the following are new in whole or in part.

Rule 82: the concluding portion has been altered so as to give the Superintendent power to deal departmentally, if necessary, with an offence against the rule.

Rule 90, sec. 2, 3, and 4 are new and in accordance with the rules in force at home; sec. 6 is also new. A similar regulation exists in the Police Force; the section is aimed at money lending by the Indian Gaol Staff.

Rule 96, sec. 3 is new.

Rule 99: The latter portion has been altered so as to make three months' notice of resignation, or forfeiture of three months' pay obligatory, instead of one month's notice or one month's pay as at present. The alteration is aimed at preventing the frequent changes in the Indian staff, which have caused much inconvenience in the past.

Rule 101: New. As the new quarters for officers will be situated outside the Gaol, the rule is necessary.
