Making out the Rates debit notices as well as the Receipts for all the Chinese rate-payers throughout the city from the General Valuation Book as well as from the Interim Valuation Lists some 2,500 notices and 2,500 receipts in foil and counter-foil, per quarter.
This is an intricate task, and requires an enormous amount of ciphering and checking work.
Sorting the above notices in lots so that they may go to the proper parties. Keeping all the books for collecting squatter licence fees, Village Crown Rent and Village House Rent.
Making out one Village Crown Rent Roll and one Village House Rent Roll yearly.
Entering into the collection books all payments, and posting same in the Rolls, and balancing the books at the close of the year.
The entering and posting of the receipts involves an amount of work, there being over 2,200 payers and the payments running from a few cents upwards.
