I have the honour to transmit for your

information and consideration copy of a letter from the Post-

master-General and its enclosures directing attention to the

inadequacy of the staff of the Registration Branch of the Ge-

neral Post Office, and in view of the facts therein stated to

endorse Commander Hastings' recommendation for the appoint-

ment of a Deputy Superintendent at a salary of $960 per an-

num rising by biennial increments of $120 to $1200 per an-

num.

The appointment of an additional clerk

for the Registration Branch has been recommended in my des-

patch No.122 of the 26th May last, and as there are funds avail-

able I have sanctioned the temporary appointment of such an

officer in anticipation of your approval of that recommenda-

tion.
