I agree with Mr. May that 4 executive officers are required to control so large a body of men, and I have therefore to endorse his recommendation for the appointment of an Additional Assistant Superintendent at a salary of $300 a month with free quarters or an allowance in lieu thereof, an allowance for conveyance of $360 per annum, and forage for one horse. I am advised that it will not be possible to obtain the services of a competent officer on less favourable terms than those mentioned.
5. In the event of your approving this new appointment, I propose to approach the Lieutenant-Governor of the Punjab with a view to the selection of a suitable candidate.
