No. 563.

Sir,

839

COLONIAL SECRETARY'S OFFICE.

Hong Kong, 8th April, 1899.

In reply to your letter No.2 of the 37th ultimo, I am directed to inform you that the patient Charles Bithrey can be admitted temporarily into the Government Lunatic Asylum pending arrangements being made for his transfer to England within a reasonable period, as the accommodation for Europeans is limited.

If Bithrey is to remain a prisoner during his detention in the Asylum, it will be necessary for two warders to be sent with him, as the institution is not adapted for the treatment of insane prisoners.

His Honour

The Chief Justice

Shanghai.

I have &c.

(Signed) J. G. T. Buckle,

p. Colonial Secretary
