The Committee recognize that a similar arrangement would be impossible in the Colony, but consider that the pay of the Adjutant is inadequate and recommend that it be increased to $100 per mensem, and that he be required to discharge the duties of Quarter Master in addition. Although the duties have been discharged efficiently in the past, previous to the appointment of Captain Gordon R.A., there were frequent changes of Adjutant, no less than four Royal Artillery Officers holding the appointment during a period of 15 months. It would seem clear that the inadequate pay does not compensate Officers for their hours of recreation which have to be devoted to the duties in connection with the Volunteer Corps.
