It will be seen that although the strength of the Corps has increased, there has been no pro rata increase in the annual vote.

It appeared that $840 a year had been debited to the Volunteer Vote for rent of a Godown, used by the Public Works Department, as a store, in consideration of the Public Works Department having vacated a portion of the present Volunteer Head Quarters. This is in direct contravention of Regulation No.16 made on 4th May 1893 under Sections 9 and 13 of the Volunteer Ordinance No.6 of 1893, wherein the Government undertakes to provide and maintain suitable premises for the use of the Corps, thereby reducing the vote to $11,160 per annum. Furthermore, it appeared that taxes had been charged on the rental of the Godown up to 30th June 1897. The cost of repairs to the Volunteer Head Quarters amounting to $462 in 1896 had also been defrayed out of the Volunteer Vote.
