Salisbury has no
objection to the
proposal, the Chinese Government should be
requested by the sum of
$100,000
should be demanded from the Chinese Government as
compensation for this expenditure, and
that H.M. Representative at
Pekin should be
instructed to press
the demand and
it should be intimated to them
at the same
time that
further compensation
will be demanded
if there
are
further disturbances necessitating further expenditures.
