In 1894 the personal emoluments of the staff of the Registrar General's office amounted to $23,070.

This included $6,806 to the Registrar General, which is merged in the Colonial Secretary's office; the assistant staff total $16,266. The Relunchment Committee recommended savings which would reduce this sum to $13,464 rising to $14,064, reducing the pay of the First Clerk from $1,800 to $1,200 on a vacancy, that of the second clerks from $11,728 to $450, and unsuitable opportunity from $1,344.
