General Duties of Sisters

Sisters are chiefly on duty in the Civil Hospital which contains wards for Medical, Surgical, Midwifery & Venereal cases; but when required they must not object to take duty in the Lunatic Asylums & Infectious Hospital of the Medical Department.

Sisters are on night and day duty alternately.

Hours of duty are eight but they must be careful to do twelve hours when necessary. Sisters are responsible for the training of Probationers & have also entire control of the Chinese Attendants under them.

Sisters are responsible for the cleanliness of their wards also for the medical and General Stores.

Sisters are on no account to administer medicines or Diets to their patients other than as ordered. They are also to report at once any serious symptoms developing in their patients to the Medical Officer.

Sisters must comply with the instructions of the Medical Officers and Matron.

Government Civil Hospital Rules for Sisters.

1. On the death of a patient the time shall be noted on the bedcard and the card sent to the ward Sister or in her absence to the Wardmaster at once.

10. Sisters shall see that all poisons and External applications are kept in the poison Cupboard.
