With reference to my despatch No.15 of the 20th January last, enclosing an extract from the Daily Press of the 11th idem containing a report of my address to the Directors of the Tung Wah Hospital, I have the honour to inform you that Mr. Ho Tung, the Chairman of the Directors, has applied for the grant of a site in the Taipingshan Resumed area for the improvement and extension of the present building.
2. As I stated in my address, the principal defect in the present hospital is the structural condition of the Ko Fong wards, which, being immediately below the level of the mortuary, are quite unsuited for the treatment of disease, and I recommended the Directors to remove them and construct properly ventilated wards instead. I also drew their attention to the insufficient accommodation for women patients.
3. The Directors are now prepared to act on those recommendations, provided that a site is granted by the Government for the necessary extension of the hospital buildings, and Mr. Ho Tung, the Chairman, has personally guaranteed the funds for carrying out the improvements. He has also accepted
