No.
127.
Government House,
Hongkong, May, 1899.
26th April,
1899.
Sir,
I have the honour to transmit for your consideration a copy of a letter addressed to this Government by the Superintendent of the Victoria Gaol, in which for reasons stated he recommends that the Deputy Superintendent of Police should be relieved of the duties of Assistant Superintendent of the Gaol, and that the Chief Warder, Mr. K. B. Craig, be appointed Assistant Superintendent on a salary of $2,400 rising by triennial increments of $600 to $3,000 per annum.
2. Mr. Craig, who was appointed to the local prison service by your despatch No. 195 of the 21st November, 1894, appears to be an Officer of considerable experience and in Mr. May's opinion, may be relied upon to exercise the powers of Assistant Superintendent of the Gaol with fairness and discretion,
THE HONOURABLE
JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.,
