Mr James whom we selected early in 1898 has not stayed long, & I understand that the Private Secretaries had considerable difficulty in getting a suitable Candidate for the other vacancy.

'Mr Grant has now been appointed & is just going out! courteously enough. The Diocesan School Committee have now arrived their objections to Mr Tanner's appointment. Mr Tanner is well spoken of on 1893 & therefore if this Private Secretary has no specially recommendable Candidate in view his appointment would I think save time trouble & expense.

[Perhaps if it were decided to appoint him we might suggest that the cost of his passage should be refunded to the Diocesan School] P.C.M.

I do not think this is necessary. The fare of the journey being somewhat altered, I think that we can approve CP2.6. Simply telegraph "Approval".

But I think that it would be the best course to appoint Z. B. Tanner as the Assistant Master of Queen's College.
