On the 17th day of last month (27th ult.), Dr. May visited the various villages and posted a proclamation saying that the lands, buildings, and customs of the people would not be interfered with, but would remain the same as before.
He afterwards went to Ying Shan and examined a site there on the hill. The village people came forward with strong opposition to the police station being erected there, saying that the Fung Shui of the place would be seriously affected.
They thought that this would be a good opportunity to arouse the fears of the people and the ignorant populace. They said that the English proclamation was simply meant to conciliate the ignorant people. It stated that their lands, buildings, and customs will not be interfered with, but they were afraid that when they first came into the leased area with the intention to erect a police station on the hill behind our village (Kuen Mun), it would be just like having a police station right where people live.
Ying Proclamation 433 says that things will be the same as before. Are not people worried?
