hard working man and I strongly recommend that he be paid $15 instead of $14 a month to keep him contented. He is
worth it.
The office boy also is a good man conversant with his duties and does them. I would recommend that he be paid $13 instead of $12 a month. He has not asked for an increase but I respectfully submit if a man is worth his wages he should be given it without requiring him to meta- phorically wring it from his employers.
Increases to European Staff.
The Senior Clerk receives incremental incre-
ases and I have pleasure in reporting is a thoroughly effi-
cient and hard working officer. The lodging allowance paid him though fair when first paid is not
now what it was intended to be, an allowance to cover the expenses of loaging in an expensive quarter and should be increased from $30 to $45 a month. Mr Solly has not asked for this increase yet as I told him would
latrecommend it. The Superintendent of the Registration
Branch has charge of a satisfactory and efficient depart-
ment
, the duties of which have largely increased since its formation under him.
I would recommend that his salary be $150
instead of $120 a month.
