Hourly chun was paid on behalf of the Ki Hing presents for the Police. In 1896 I paid $35 and by reference to my books I have ascertained that these payments for the Police began in 1883. The sums are entered in my books.
I was told that the money was for presents for the Police, and said that it was better to pay for it, if I did not, I should be troubled by the Police. I do not know which of the Police got the money. The money was paid at the end of the English year as a Christmas present to the Police.
