Enclosure M23.
Wat Wo states : –
I am Accountant to the stall holder of stall No. 20 in the Central Market, the style of which stall is known as "Theng Yuk". I have been so employed since April 1897. I lived at Canton Village in the Fan Yu District for two years previous to that.
For 5 or 6 years previous to that I was a partner in the Cheng Jai Marine store in Gilman's Bazaar. This store was closed in 1895. The capital was $1,300. There were at first 3 partners, afterwards 5. I had a $400 share. Fung On was also a partner with a $200 share.
When Fung On was in the employ of the Opium Farm he asked me to write a list of names and amounts in dollars opposite. This happened on two occasions. I cannot remember the dates but there was an interval of several months between the two occasions.
I wrote from Fung On's dictation and then handed the lists to him. This took place both times at the Ching Jai Shop. I can only remember the following being on one or both lists: Sam Ming, Mi Cheung, Chie Kwai Lam, To Thung Jung and Kwan Yee (Quincey). I cannot remember exactly the amounts.
