Recu 12 20 JUN

No. 118.

Government House,

Hongkong, 23 May 1899.

172

With reference to your despatch No.338 of the 31st December last, I have the honour to forward copies (Enclosures 1 to 3) of the Statutory Declarations referred to in paragraph 3 of W.Quincey's petition to you of the 5th November last.

I also enclose for your information copy of a memorandum by the Captain Superintendent of Police and its annexures, dated 4 May 1899. (Enclosures)

As I consider it desirable that you should be placed in possession of the further evidence of corruption therein produced.

This additional evidence has not been furnished to Messrs.Quincey and Stanton as I am doubtful whether it is your wish that the matter should proceed further.

I shall, therefore, await your instructions before taking any steps in that direction.

The Right Honourable JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN M.P., &c. &c. &c.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your Most Obedient Humble Servant,

Henry Arthur Blake

GOVERNOR &c.
