I think Mr. Churton would in all probability make a good magistrate. In fact, I believe he would be a very good one. I am supposing that his successor will be appointed soon.
Mr. Churton, in a private letter, has been receiving parts from Sir H. Blake. The derivation of "Large experience of water places" is a question that I should like to see here in the head of the Police. But it is quite probable that the way "police force" is organised is equally faulty with that of Church.
I attach here a letter from H. Blake, which is rather an important one, as at the time of writing he was far from having wasted his time, either in the back portion of the line or in passing through Chatham.
The financial prospects and possibilities &c. are detailed in a telegram from the new Secretary, and I have forwarded these to you.
