Sir,
Government House
136
Hong Kong, 13th May 1899
On two occasions permission has been asked by officers commanding Foreign War Ships to land firing parties on the occasion of the funerals of members of their crews.
In my opinion, which is shared by the Major General Commanding and the Commodore, such permission can safely be granted, and the concession would be highly appreciated by Foreign officers.
I have the honour to request
the Right Honourable
Joseph Chamberlain M.P.
Secretary of State for the Colonies.
