As regards the above estimate of proceeds from Land sales, I enclose for your information a list of sales, furnished by the Director of Public Works, that are likely to be effected this year, from which you will observe that it is not improbable that a considerably larger sum may be realised. I have, however, thought it prudent not to adopt too high an estimate of receipts from this source.
8. As regards the Estimates for next year, provision will have to be made for the following additional expenditure:-
(1) Completion of Buildings in the new territory $19,000.
(2) Completion of roads in the new territory - $180,000.
(3) Police establishment in the new territory $119,000.
(4) Civil establishment in the new territory - $35,000.
(5) Working expenses $30,000.
(6) Surplus to be provided in accordance with paragraph 9 of your despatch under acknowledgment - $50,000.
(7) Public Works Extraordinary in Hong-Kong chargeable to revenue - $300,000.
(8) Expenses in connection with the complete survey of the new territory $60,000.
(9) Cost of re-arming the Police $12,000, giving a total of $808,000.
