cers have hitherto draw leave pay and pension at the rate

of Rs.227 to $100 and it is a question whether, in the case

of the Police especially, the adoption of a lower rate would

not cause discontent, to a certain extent justifiable.

Although India has not yet formally adopted

the gold standard her recent legislation practically put ex-

change on the same lines as that with a gold using country

and if the standard is adopted, the change must be made at or

about the rate of the day.

As regards leave pay in both countries, exchange

compensation increases or decreases pari passu with the rate

of exchange so that the present rates of exchange taken in

this report are sufficient for purposes of comparison.
