I fear that compulsory contribution would do so, and I therefore do not think that it would pay the Govern- ment to make the change proposed.
The possible saving it might effect thereby would probably be more than counterbalanced by less efficient discharge of Police work.
The question also arises as to whether it would be for the benefit of the Fund to saddle it with a num- ber of men (about 30) just as the latter become entitled to marry, a privilege of which the large majority of the 30 would avail themselves.
