This branch was not applicable to the dak at Cheung Sha Wan. The Kam Tin Tangs have made complaints that if necessary they will endeavour to produce witnesses who will be prepared to swear against Tang Yung Shen & Ng Do Sau, who were getting the sale of the Cheung Sha Wan land affected. The informant states he will endeavour to produce witnesses who will be prepared to swear against Ng Do Sau and Tang Yung Shen that the latter told them "that they would be dispossessed of their land by the British, and that in those circumstances they had better sell the land" who did in consequence actually sell the land. The informant further states that it is common report in the New Territory that Ng Do Sau and Tang Yung Shun have purchased land at Tai Po Hii to the value of $1200 on behalf of the Syndicate headed by Mr. Wu Juk Hong, & that the said agents of the Syndicate have represented to the syndicate that the cost price of the land was $2000, the $800 difference being pocketed by the agents as their squeezes. As to the alleged subscription, the informant states that he has not heard anything about it.

In continuation of my No. 783 of the 6th inst, I have the honour to forward the enclosed notes of an interview which took place yesterday between some Chinese from a place called P'an T'ien, which is in the Tung Kun Sau or districts about 10 miles inland from the proposed Northern boundary of the Kowloon Hinterland, and the Hon. Mr. Yuk, or Wu Yuk, who I may mention is the second of the two Chinese whose information I report in my letter of the 15th inst.
The informant is of opinion that the efforts of the people of P'an T'ien to raise funds for protection against the rising of the Triad Society may have given rise to the report that the inhabitants of this Hinterland were raising funds to oppose the British occupation. Although there may be some truth in such an explanation, the fact remains that according to Mr. Wu Yuk's own report quoted in my previous letter, the Kam Tin people did at one time try to collect money to oppose the British occupation.
