RECO
ENCLOSURE 1
Colonial Secretary's Office.
Hong-Kong, 9th June, 1898.
Sir,
I am directed by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government to enquire whether the Government of India would be prepared to execute at the Indian Mints supplies of subsidiary coins for this Government if the necessary dies and punches are furnished.
The annual supply in monthly consignments to be determined later would approximate to 38,000,000 ten cent pieces, and 2,000,000 five cent pieces, and if the Government of India is willing to entertain the proposal, I should be glad to receive an estimate of the minting charges.
I have, &c.,
(sd.) T. SERCOMBE SMITH,
Acting Colonial Secretary,
Secretary to the Government of India,
CALCUTTA
