To
Sir,
Hongkong Club, April 10th, 1899,
Captain Ramsey, Royal Navy, Harbour Master, Hongkong,
RECO Reef 2 MAY 19
I understand that the post of Assistant Harbour Master is vacant and hereby beg to apply for the same. I served in Her Majesty's Navy for ten years, resigning my commission as sub-lieutenant at my own request in 1882. Since then till 1897, I resided in Buckinghamshire holding a farm of 300 acres. I have recently, in January of the present year, obtained my certificate from the Sydney Board of Trade as Master of Foreign-going ships. I have all papers relating to my service in the Navy, and also my Master's certificate with me if you should think fit to see them.
Yours faithfully,
(Sd.) Alwyne Olliver.
