The
mat-sheds that Viceroy Undertook
to protect were
burnt yesterday at
Tax pohu. A Company Hong Kong regiment
and 22nd police who are occupying that station permanently went to-day to
establish
Camp and
arranged for ceremony on Monday. Information just received by Colonial
Secretary
that bad spirit has developed and
large numbers from Sham-chun, and
district around it have flocked to come
in opposition to the taking
of the Territory. Hope
this is not true. Troops have been instructed to act with forbearance and not take
any steps unless attacked in
which case
authority must be asserted.
