Articles of Agreement entered into the

Between the undersigned, one of the Crown Agents for the Colonies, of Downing Street, in the City of Westminster, for and on behalf of the Government of the Straits Settlements, of the one part, and
of the other part,
Whereby it is mutually agreed as follows:---
1. The said...
(hereinafter called the person engaged), in consideration of the sum of £15 on or before the execution of these presents paid to him by way of bounty by the Crown Agents (as the person engaged hereby acknowledges) hereby enlists for the term of six years from the date of arrival in the Colony in the Police Force of the said Government upon the conditions of "The Police Force Ordinances 1872 service hereto annexed, and subject to the provisions of and 1885," and will, during the said term, act in all respects according to the directions and instructions given to him by the said Government through its Officers, and faithfully and honestly fulfil the duties required of him by or on behalf of the said Government, and will serve on an emergency in the Native States if so required, hereby expressly renouncing the benefit in his favour of section 21 of Ordinance I of 1872.
2. The person engaged will at the cost of the said Government proceed to the Straits Settlements by such steamer as the Crown Agents shall name, and in default of so doing will on demand repay to the Crown Agents the said sum of £15 so paid to him as aforesaid. He will receive full pay at the rate of $720 per annum from the date of embarkation, which pay will be increased to $780 after three years' service.
3. The Crown Agents shall be in nowise personally liable for anything arising out of
this Agreement.
