sir,

With reference to your despatch No.228 of the

7th. September last, I have the honour to report that I propose

to make the following appointments to take effect from the

date of Mr. W. Fisher's retirement on pension in March next:-

1. Mr. A. Watson, Inspector of Markets, to be In-

spector in charge of Animal Depots at Kennedy Town at a salary

of $1,200 per annum with quarters.

2. Mr.J.T. Cotton, who has been performing the

duties during Mr. Fisher's absence on leave, to he Inspector of

Markets at a salary of $960 rising by $48 annually to $1,104

with quarters.

The present pay of the Inspector of Markets is

$720 rising to $960 by $48 annually, but the higher rate is

recommended by the Sanitary Board in view of the responsibili-

ties of the post.

It is also considered desirable to place the

Inspector of Markets on an equal footing with 2nd. Class Inspec-

tor of Nuisances whose salaries were re-adjusted in the Esti-

mates for the current year (p.42) and have been sanctioned by

The Right Honourable

JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.
