4. The necessary statistics will be found in

Table I of Dr. Thomson's report. I find from him and from Dr.

Atkinson that the 505 moribund cases included were all inclu-

ded on the Chinese side, as patients are only treated by the

European methods when they so desire, and those people were

unable to give any indication of their wishes. If we deduct

those 505 from the number of admissions and of deaths of pa-

tients treated by the Chinese method the return shows 452 ad-

mitted and 111 deaths or 24% of those treated by European

methods and 1819 admitted with 378 deaths or 20% of those

treated by Chinese methods - an awkward result which neither

Dr. Atkinson nor Dr. Thomson could explain. As you will observe

from my observations I have promised a site when the necessary

funds are forthcoming to build an extension.
