REPORT on the plans for the new Law Courts in HKong received with C.0.D.251/98, being the result of a conference with the Chief Justice,Mr. Justice Wise, the Acting Attorney

General, the Crown Solicitor and the Registrar.

1. During some months in the winter it is abso-

lutely necessary to have means for heating offices in HongKong. The Judges and other officers of the Court would prefer open fire places in their offices, but I think possibly a satisfac- tory means of heating by stoves or by hot water or steam pipes

may be arranged.

2. The Judges do not require a special room for their clerks, who usually work in the Registry Office, thus the space occupied by the large room so apportioned on the first floor may be otherwise utilized.

Fis

3. The Chief Justice would prefer that the pri- vate room should adjoin that of the Puisne Judge. He is also doubtful whether one window on the west front will give suffi- cient light in his office. By omitting the Clerks' Office, the architects will have no difficulty in arranging a room for the Chief Justice with two front windows.

4. It is considered for various reasons desi- rable that the Jury room and the Robing room should be trans-

posed, the former being placed at the north end and the latter

at the south end next the small Court.
