I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt

of your despatch General of the 9th.ultimo on the subject of

the new letter postal rate between this Colony and various

parts of the Empire, and to state in reply to the 3rd.paragraph

of that despatch that the Postmaster General estimates that

the loss to the revenue of the Colony incurred by the adop- tion of the new rate will be reduced by $7,000 or $8,000 by

the exclusion of correspondence from British Post Offices in Foreign Countries from the scheme.
