I have the honour to address you with respect to my position as a Clerk in the Prison Department of Hong Kong. I fully appreciate that promotions are likely to follow any change, and with respect to the recent acquisition of Territory on the mainland and of Hau Lung Chau, my request for betterment of position may be considered for the following reasons.
My principal reason for making this application is the want of quarters; the house rent is very high, even in localities surrounded by risks of fever and disease, and accompanied by the risks of living among the Chinese. With children, it is difficult to find accommodation.
