I am directed by the Secretary of State for
the Colonies to transmit to you the enclosed letter
Treas.to C.0.13.9.98 that has been received from the Treasury enquiring as
to the accuracy of the statement that residence on the
Peak, Hong Kong, is at least 50 per cent dearer than
residence at Kowloon or on the lower level of the
Colony.
2. The Secretary of State will be much obliged
if you will be good enough to favour him with an
expression of your views on this subject.
3. I am to ask that the enclosed original
documents may be returned to this Department with
your reply.
