Sergeant Molver has been awarded the first class gold medal by his Excellency the Governor for meritorious services in connection with the registration of coolie houses. It was only four months ago that Sergeant Molvor was presented with bronze medal for his exceptionally good work during the plague, and the fact that he has received the gold medal so soon afterwards speaks well for the high value placed upon his services. Sergeant Molvor is the first of his rank to gain the gold medal, and there can be no question that he has thoroughly deserved the honour.

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter No. 85-01/98, dated the 28th April, stating that my pension of Hong Kong has been fixed at $201.7 per annum. And in reply, I beg most respectfully to ask if any allowance have been made, in calculating my pension, for my good conduct medal, which was awarded on the 12th March 1898. I was awarded a fourth-class good conduct medal for services rendered during the plague epidemic in Hong Kong in the year 1894 on 14 July 1895. And as the first awarded a first-class gold medal for services rendered in connection with the registration of Common Lodging Houses in Hong Kong during the great coolie strikes in the year 1895, I attach a cutting from one of the Hong Kong daily papers.
