May 13th, 1898.

I have the honour to inform you, with reference to your letter No.25574/94, of stating that a copy of the correspondence respecting my application for a retiring allowance had been forwarded to the Governor of Hong Kong, that no further communication on the subject has reached me.

I should therefore esteem it a great favour if you would kindly inform me whether any letter has been forwarded and failed to reach its destination.

I would respectfully point out that Mr. Manson stated when I had an interview with him that the fever from which I had suffered had left me, whereas I still continue subject to attacks which my medical adviser describes as purely Malarial, and since my health has been destroyed in the service of the Hong Kong Government, I cannot but trust that my application for compensation in accordance with the Colonial regulations will not be disregarded.
