18927
Sir,
I am directed by the Lords Justices to acknowledge the
receipt of your letter of the 26th ultimo, and to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that the Irish Government have no objection to a compliance with the request of the Government of Hong Kong that the services of Mr.T.A.Howe, Acting Deputy Superintendent of Police, may be retained until the 28th instant.
I am at the same time to inform you that the Inspector General,Royal Irish Constabulary, has expressed the desire that District Inspector Howe may, on his recall,be allowed a first- class passage to England, having regard to the fact that officers of that Force hold the same official status as Commissioned Officers in the Army, and are granted first-class travelling expenses, both by rail and boat, when at home.
Their Excellencies will be obliged if Mr. Secretary Chamber- lain will cause the request of the Inspector General to be com- plied with.
I am,
e Under Secretary
of State,
Colonial Office.
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
