Sir

I beg to acknowledge your letter of the 5th Inst. 6140/98, and I am directed to ask
to be good enough to convey
to Mr Secretary Chamberlain the respectful thanks of my Committer for the decision announced therein in reference to the site for the soldiers and Sailors' Home at Hong Kong.
The proposed term of 99 years for the lease will meet the requirements
of
the Committee. Under present circumstances it will not that this decision should be tele-
be necessary - graphed to the Colony.
My Committee greatly appreciates mr. Chamberlain's expression of sympathy with the objects which it is intended to secure by the erection of the Home, and his appreciation of the work in which the Committee is engaged.
The $2000 saved on the premium by the Secretary of State's decision, will, I need hardly say, be expended on the improvement of the premises to be erected.
I am Sir.
nder Secretary of State.
Colonial Office.
London. S.W.
Your Obedient Servant.
B-wallen.
