WANTED A First Grade Assistant Master.

UNMARRIED under

30 years of age: Graduate: having at least two years' experience in school work.

DUTIES to teach Chinese boys (or boys of other nation- alities) the usual subjects for an Elementary Education: English Grammar, Dictation, Composition, Arithmetic. SCHOOL HOURS 9 -1.30 five days a week, 2.30 -4 two afternoons and 9-12 Saturdays.

VACATIONS One Calendar Month, February and August. Salary $1800 with Exchange Compensation.

EXCHANGE COMPENSATION i.e. an allowance to make up one half of the salary to the Sterling value of 3/- the Dol- lar is at present granted and will be continued so long as this privilege is given to other members of the Goverment Service: but it is subject to an annual Vote of the Legislative Council of the Colony and no promise can be made that it will be continued. The gain has this year (1897) varied from one-fifth to one third of the total pay, according to the fluctuation of the

dollar
