I am directed by the Secretary of State for War
to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of
State for the Colonies that Major General W. J. Gascoigne
has been selected for the appointment of Major General
on the Staff to command the Troops in China and Hong Kong
vice Major General W. Black, C.B., whose period of
service in that appointment expires on the 1st December
next.
This officer has been directed to call at the
Colonial Office in order to receive any instructions that
Mr Secretary Chamberlain may wish to give him regarding
Colonial Affairs before proceeding to Hong Kong.
