REC

11 JUL 20

My Lords,

With reference to our letter of 15th June 1897, in which we gave you particulars of the appropriation of the limit for our Note Issue, we have now to inform your

Lordships that the amounts have been altered as follows

Penang

Singapore

Hongkong

Shanghai

Bangkok

Leaving unappropriated

Total

$2,000,000

$2,000,000 $3,000,000 500,000 100,000

$7,600,000

400,000

$8,000,000.

For the whole amount of the limit, security

has been deposited in London, Singapore, and HongKong. To

prevent any misunderstanding, however, we shall be glad

if you will telegraph at our expense, to the Colonial

Treasurer in Hongkong, authorising the increase in the

limit at that point from $2,750,000 to $3,000,000, and

instruct him to receive from our Manager there Cash as

security to the extent of $83,334, being one third of

the additional amount of $250,000. This will leave an

aggregate amount of security in excess of that required,

and we will communicate with Your Lordships on this subject

later on, when it may be more convenient to you.

I have the honour to be, My Lords,

Your most obedient servant,

(Sd) Wm.Hoggan

Secretary.
