I have the honour to inform you that His Excellency Governor has approved of the recommendations of a special ittee appointed to report on the subject of Government piers the New Praya namely that the Pedders' Street pier should be structed in accordance with a plan submitted by the Director of lic Works.

Copies of that plan are herewith forwarded in duplicate It is desired that the iron or steel pier should be ined complete from England, and I am instructed to request you Call for tenders for the same by advertisement.

The pier as shown on the plan is to be 200 feet long

40 feet wide with two double flights of iron steps at each side.

The plans give necessary information regarding the

th of water in the harbour at this place and the nature of the om. The details of construction are left to the Manufacturers tender.

Some evidence was placed before the Committee regarding] comparative advantages of iron over steel in structures exposed the action of salt water. It is therefore desired that in the ertisement, latitude in this matter should be given to tenderers. The following form of tender is suggested:-

"The Crown Agents for the Colonies are prepared to received tenders up to
