vendors of Sharp's Buildings to indemnify them against the

payment of Crown Rents during the remainder of the

unexpired leases, but this covenant between the Admiralty

and the vendors should not affect the principle hitherto

acted upon by the Colonial Government in its relations

with the War Department that land required for the purposes

of Imperial Defence should not be subject to Crown Rent

whilst so used.

It appears therefore to My Lords that no payment

should be made by the Admiralty for Crown Rant on Sharp's

property as long as it remains in their hands, and My Lords

trust that they may receive the concurrence of the Secretary

of State in this

view.

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Evan Machreson
