With reference to your letter of the 22nd June

1898, No.13300/98, forwarding copy of a despatch from the

Acting Governor of Hong Kong covering an application from

Mr W. Chatham for remuneration in respect of his services

in connection with the acquisition of Mr Sharp's property,

I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty

to inform you that My Lords would be glad if the Secretary

of State would be so good as to favour them with his

opinion as to what would be a fair and reasonable amount

to pay to Mr Chatham for the services rendered.
