With reference to your letter of 13th January
1898, No.278/98, on the subject of the proposed Extension
of the Royal Naval Yard at Kowloon, I am commanded by My
Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you, for
the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies,
that in view of the objections urged, My Lords will not
press for the diversion of the MacDonnell Road, and they
are prepared to limit the Extension of the Dockyard at
present to the 7 acres of water area and foreshore reserved
for the Extension of the Yard.
It is observed that the price for this 7 acres
is fixed at 30 cents per foot in the letter of the Director
of Public Works, dated 11th November 1897, No.691, but as
the water area is useless until reclaimed, and as the
Extension of the Dockyard is urgently required for Imperial
purposes, My Lords hope that the Secretary of State will be
