With reference to Sir William Robinson's des...

patch No.149 of the 30th. June, 1896, and to your reply there to

No.166 of the 7th. August following, I regret to have to report

that Mr.W. E. Crow, Government Analyst, was brought before the

Executive Council on the 14th.instant to defend himself orally

against the charges of (1) being absent from duty on the 2nd.

December last without leave, and (2) being incapicitated by rea-

son of alcoholism from performing his duty on that date.

In view of Mr. Crow's previous history, I caused

the usual steps to be taken with a view to his suspension in

accordance with the Colonial Office Regulations, and I further

interdicted him under Regulation No.88 from the exercise of

the powers and functions of his office pending the considera-

tion of his case in Executive Council,

indea 1898.

I enclose for your information copies of all

the material documents relating to Mr. Crow's case, and a copy

of the Minutes of Council, from which you will observe that the

Members unanimously advised that Mr. Crow he formally suspended

from office and recommended to you for dismissal from the Pub-

lic Service of this Colony, and that pending the receipt of

The Right Honourable

JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN, M.P.
