An Ordinance to suppress the spread of a certain contagious disease known as Venereal Disease. WHEREAS it is expedient to provide means to suppress the spread of a certain contagious disease known as Vene- real Disease:
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:--

1. This Ordinance may be cited for ail purposes as The Short Hele Venereal Discuse Ordinance, 1808.
2. In this Ordinance, nuless the context otherwise re- Interpreta- quires,-
The expression venereal disease" means and includes primary and secondary syphilis, gonorrhon, and soft Phuncres;
The word "doctor" menus a medical practitioner regis- tered under The Medical Registration Ordinances, 1884 to 1893, or entitled to the benefit of section 20 of The Medical Registration Ordinance, 1884; The expression "Hospital Authority" means and in- cludes the Principal Civil Medical Officer and any Assistant Surgeon or Physician in the Government Civil Hospital;

s. 16.) or of the part of any premises, and, in the case of a honse the whole of which is let out in separate tene- ments, or in the case of a lodging-house the whole of which is let to lodgers, the person receiving the rent payable by the tenants or lodgers either as his own account or as the agent of auther person, aud in the case of a ship, vessel, or boat the master or other person in charge thereof:
The word "premises" shall not include any buildings, tents, ships, vessels, or boats belonging to Her Majesty or to any foreign Government or occupied by non-Asiatics who are not prostitutes.

(a) Such innuite (in this section referred to as the patient) and in default of such inmare the person in charge of or in attendance upon the patient, and in default of such person the keeper or occupier of the premises, shall, upon becoming aware be having reason to believe that the patient is suffering from venereal discuse, forthwith make a report to the Captain Superintendent stating the name and address of the patient;
(b) Every doctor attending on or called in to visit the patient shall forthwith, on becoming aware that the patient is suffering from venereal disease, make a report to the Captain Superintendent stating the name and address of the patient.
(2) Every person required by this section to make a report who fails forthwith su to do, shall be liable, on summary conviction, to a fine wot exceeding twenty-five dollars be in default of payment to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one inonth: Provided that no person not required to make a report in the first instance, but only in default of some other party shall be liable to any fine if the Court is satisfied that such person had reason- able cause to suppose that the report had been duly mude and believed that it had been made.
