This is specially worthy of note as merking
the introduction of Western surgery under the influence of
Chloroform into the Tung Wah Hospital. In all cases where a
general anaesthetic was used, it was administered by Dr. Wan
Tun Mo,House-Surgeon of the Alice Memorial Hospital, who is an
experienced anaesthetist,
A temperature chart is now kept in all cases
of diarrhoea as well as in all cases of fever, whether under
native or western treatment. As a result of this a few weeks
ago a case that had been admitted as simple diarrhoea was
proved to be Enteric fever, and was duly notified.
A covered gangway has been constructed between
the verandahs on the first floor of the North and West Blocks
of Wards, facilitating communication between them,
The kitchen has been re-floored and re-construct -
ed, with very considerable improvements in its arrangements ani
equipment.
All the drains have been examined, and where
defective, have been put in order, under the supervision of the
hospital architect, Mr. R.K.Leigh,M.I.C.E., and of the officers
of the Public Works Department.
Some months ago over 250 small blankets were
purchased, and have been in use in all the wards. Formerly the
directors refused to sanction the use of blankets except in
the Receiving Ward. Since the beginning of the current month
(October) the cotton quilts (meen-tois) have been issued again;
but the use of the blankets during the autumn indicates the
beginning
