I am directed to inform you that the letter dated

14th. Tune last, signed by yourself and other gentlemen,

and praying for an increase in your salaries, has been

carefully considered by the Officer Administering the

Government who regrets, however, that he is unable to grant

your joint request.

There may be a very few officers whose cases

are deserving of attention and in respect of whom recommend-

ations for an increase in salary may be made to the

Secretary of State.
