Sir,
I have the honour to place before you, for the
information of His Excellency the Officer Administering the
Government the following facts
In December last year an English speaking Chi-
nese in Canton, Mr. Sit Ming Cook, registered under the Companies
Ordinance the Wan Kee Shipping Company Limited" with himself
as General Manager. This Company runs steamlaunches on the in-
land waters and has its headquarters in Canton. It has hither-
to used the Chinese Flag but proposes, I understand, so soon as
the Inland Water Regulations are in force, to fly the British
Flag on its launches. My predecessor, Consul Brenan, having been
notified that the Company was British gave it on one occasion
some assistance which proved of great use.
Encouraged by this, on the 1st.of June last Mr.
Sit Ming Cook registered a new Company, the Canton Wharf and
Godown Company Limited" with a capital of ten thousand dollars ($10,000).On the 30th. July was next registered the "Canton
Ngai Sun Engineering and Shipbuilding Company Limited" with a
capital
